Taipei, Sept. 5 (CNA) Most of the incumbent Cabinet members will retain their positions in the new Cabinet, with only a minor reshuffle expected when Premier-designate Lai Ching-te (賴清德) takes office later this week, a source familiar with the matter said Tuesday.

Acting Economics Minister Shen Jong-chin (沈榮津) will be confirmed as minister, and all the other Cabinet members will stay on, except for Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) Chairman Lee Ruey-tsang (李瑞倉) and Chen Tain-jy (陳添枝), who currently serves concurrently as a minister without portfolio and chief of the National Development Council, the source said.

Chen Mei-ling (陳美伶), the incumbent secretary-general of the Cabinet, will take over the vacancies left by Chen Tain-jy, while Wellington Koo (顧立雄), chairman of the Ill-gotten Party Assets Settlement Committee, will become chairman of the FSC, according to Cabinet spokesman Hsu Kuo-yung (徐國勇).

Ruling Democratic Progressive Party Deputy Secretary-General Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) will succeed Chen Mei-ling as the next Cabinet secretary-general, Hsu said.

Koo's vacancy, meanwhile, will be filled by Lin Feng-jeng (林峯正), an adviser to the National Security Council, according to the source.

On Tuesday, President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) named Lai as the next premier, replacing Lin Chuan (林全), who tendered his resignation the previous day.

Taiwan Stock Exchange Corp. (TWSE) Chairman Shih Jun-ji (施俊吉) will be the new vice premier.

Lin's Cabinet is expected to resign en masse Thursday, after which a new Cabinet will be sworn in Friday.
