Electricity supply restored around Taiwan: Taipower

2017/08/15 23:11:16

Taipei, Aug. 15 (CNA) Electricity supplies around the country were restored late Tuesday following a power outage earlier in the day, during which 6.68 million households were affected, Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower) said that day.

Temporary rotational power rationing was implemented in four cycles from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with supplies in the affected areas suspended for one hour at a time.

At 9:40 p.m., Taipower announced an end to the power rationing and said that electricity had been restored throughout the country.

The generators at the Tatan Power Plant were fully up and running, it added.

Earlier in the day, all six generators were tripped at the plant due to a technical error that involved a two-minute suspension of its liquefied natural gas supply from CPC Corp., Taiwan, which resulted in a reduction of power supply by 6.35 million kilowatts.

The areas hit by the power outage included greater Taipei, Taichung and Tainan, as well as Miaoli, Nantou, Chiayi counties, impacting 6.68 million households.
